Bio

Nathan Lewis is the editor of the Kiku Advisors investment reports.

After five years in Tokyo, where he worked in financial journalism, in 2000 he joined Polyconomics Inc. as a Japan/Asia macro analyst, and later became Chief International Macro Analyst. Polyconomics provided institutional investment research with a macro theme, grounded in Classical economics, for mutual funds, hedge funds and institutional investors. In 2005-2015, he managed money professionally, as part of the Global Opportunities Fund (a hedge fund) at LW Asset Management ($450m firm AUM), and then with a small startup hedge fund in 2008-2015. Also, he managed private accounts during this period, all with a combination of a global macro framework and individual asset selection with a value theme. He continues to manage a small amount of assets for private clients. He holds the CFA and CIPM designations.

In 2015 he started the Vega Institute of Political Economy, a patron-supported 501(c)3 “think tank” structure to allow continued research into topics of economics. He has been a speaker at events hosted by the Heritage Foundation, Cato Institute and American Principles project, and has spoken at investment conferences and private gatherings. He has been featured in major television documentaries on economic topics in China, Russia, South Korea, Britain and the United States. He writes on economic topics at his website newworldeconomics.com, and has been a columnist at Forbes.com for a number of years. He has served as an advisor to foreign governments.

Lewis is the author of four books on economic topics. Three constitute the “gold trilogy,” elucidating the theory and history of gold standard monetary systems, as they existed throughout the world from ancient times to 1971. These are Gold: The Once and Future Money (2007, published in five languages), Gold: The Monetary Polaris (2013), and Gold: The Final Standard (2017). All are available at Amazon.com, or at Newworldeconomics.com. In 2019, a fourth book on broader topics of economic policy was released, The Magic Formula.

With a deep understanding of economic theory and history, and years of professional asset-management experience, Lewis aims to bring illuminating and actionable insights to the portfolio management process.
